Why do people believe or disbelieve in God(s) and, psychologically speaking, what does that (dis)belief do for them?

Will Gervais is an evolutionary and cultural psychologist who is interested in why people believe what they believe about the world. His research focuses on the cognitive, evolutionary, and cultural forces that facilitate supernatural beliefs—and how these beliefs, in turn, affect cognition, evolution, and culture. Will is also a strong advocate for reform in research methods to produce more robust results and a more transparent, effective science.
